Nato a New York il 20 giugno 1933, l’attore era figlio di una sarta italiana originaria di Napoli, mentre suo padre era un operaio americano figlio di immigrati italiani. Una famiglia povera e con sei figli.
Danny Aiello aveva interpretato ruoli (non protagonista) in film come “Fa’ la cosa giusta” di Spike Lee per il quale fu nominato ai premi Oscar nel 1990 e “C’era una volta in America” di Sergio Leone.
Danny Aiello ha lavorato anche con Madonna, interpreta infatti la parte del padre della cantante nel video della canzone “Papa Don’t Preach”. Un grande caratterista con alle spalle più di 100 ruoli, tra cui “Il Padrino – Parte II”.
